Sports Flooring for Universities

Universities are home to some of the biggest sports facilities in the UK and are often the stage for a wide range of prominent national and international sporting events.

Alongside large sports halls many Universities will also have high performance gyms and training centres that can be used by top athletes.

DYNAMIK have worked on a number of large University projects in recent years and have specified, supplied and installed both sprung sports flooring and specialist gym solutions such as Gym-Flex Rubber Tiles or Mondo Track Flooring.

These include installations at the University of Essex, Imperial College London, the University of Bath, the University of Cambridge, Cardiff Metropolitan University, University of East London and most recently the University of Oxford’s innovative ASB Glass Floor by DYNAMIK.

Within University sports halls there is often a requirement to meet the needs of a particular sport or sporting governing body. DYNAMIK understand this and bring experience to assist you in making the correct choice to meet your particular sports floor system requirements.

For example the University of Bath received funding from England Netball for their Main Sports Hall since this was to be the base for UK Netball, therefore a modified system was designed to fit the sporting requirements of both elite level Netball plus other Governing Bodies and Sport England.

We also helped in the design of a dedicated fencing salle and provided a construction that would incorporate the complex electronics required – our DYNAMIK London sports floor system finished in a 2mm solid sport linoleum surface to match the thickness of the metal plates.

DYNAMIK sprung sports floor systems are specified alongside Haro, Junckers, Boen, Tarkett, Mondo etc. with the added benefit of a solution-led approach considering grassroots (i.e. Primary schools) and elite (i.e. International sports) level. At UEL it was known that the floor in the Main Hall was going to be used by the American Basketball team as their training venue for the London 2012 Olympics, accordingly our Helsinki sports flooring system was chosen since it is a FIBA Level 1 floor system.

Additionally, in the Fitness Area our DYNAMIK London sports floor system was chosen finished in solid sport linoleum to provide a durable surface for a variety of sports equipment without causing damage to the floor surface.

A University environment requires the following additional considerations:

  • Increased loadings imposed on the sports floor system of movable bleacher seating units
  • Floor protection for social and other non-sport events
  • Line marking & court facilities to meet the requirements of International sporting events
  • Environmentally Friendly flooring
  • Highest quality standards for Sports Floors following Sport England guidance and compliant with EN 14904
  • Equality Act 2010 with reference to wheelchair users of public facilities

DYNAMIK have the expertise to guide and assist you in choosing the right sports floors for your University facilities.
